The subliminal messages - or not so much - that come at us through multiple sources all speak to one thing: "It's all about me."
We are full steam ahead, on the It's All About Me Track. The world's train tells us that we don't have to do anything we don't want to do. That we are not required to give, but instead, to take. That we owe no one anything, but that they owe us much. That we are not obligated to work hard, or to fight for anything that does not come easy or free, for a new one is at our fingertips.
It is Generation ME.
Perhaps, this generation got it right. But, not in the vain inflated-self sense that we would like to think. But, it will be. One day. One day it will be all about us. And, that my dear friends, is the only day that will truly matter. For there is but one moment that it all comes down to. One moment that matters more than any other. One conversation that holds esteem high above all the others - the moment each of us will stand in front of our Eternal Father.
See, whether or not you believe in The Higher Power that is God, or whether or not you believe in heaven or hell, I can tell you that I have experienced the presence of God in my own life. Therefore, I know Him to be true. I have experienced Him first hand and have seen the great work He has done in my life and in the lives of others. And, in that experience, in that truth, I believe in His Word that He sent to us. And, in that Word, the Bible, it tells me that I will stand in front of the Lord God Almighty and give an account for the choices that I have made. And, in that account, my eternal decision will be made. Then, and only then, it will truly be All About Me.
In Romans 14:12 (NIV) we read, "So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God." An account of who? Our brother? Our mother? Our friend? Our neighbor? Our coworker? Our children or our spouse? No! We will give an account of OURSELVES.
I will not stand before God and justify my anger, my bitterness, my hatred, my unforgiving heart or my grudges based on what someone did do or did not do to me or for me. Christ is going to ask me about me! How did I respond and react? Did I obey Him even when it was the most difficult thing to do? Even when in that obedience He commanded me to forgive the very person who hurt me the most? Or, that person who hurt someone else that I loved dearly? I will not answer for them. I will answer for me. My choices will not be justified based on someone else's actions or choices. They will be based solely on me.
The Bible teaches us to “get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.” These characteristics are sins against God and no amount of, "But, God" will change that on that monumental day. If you are reading this, it's not too late to release it all to Him.
Matthew 6:14-15, "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." Friend, won't you want to be forgiven on the most important of ME days? If your answer is yes, and I pray that it is, seek to rid yourselves of the bondage of bitterness, unforgiveness, hatred and anger.
We all have reasons to hold grudges - to not forgive, to hate, to be bitter - People wrong us. Words hurt us. At times, even God does not always do what we think He should do. We hold offenses against others, and often against God, who we think should have done things differently. A grudge is simply a refusal to forgive. We think that to forgive is to excuse sin or pretend the offense did not matter. Neither is true. Forgiveness is not about the other person. Forgiveness is God’s gift to us to release us from the control of someone who has offended us.
Romans 12:19, “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.
Loved Ones, I invite you to begin the journey of embracing the true meaning of the It's All About Me generation. If you do not know where to start, please say this simple prayer below and feel free to contact me via my website for further direction. May God bless you.
Almighty God, Ruler of Heaven and Earth and the Decider of my Day of my Reckoning, forgive me, Lord, for those things of the flesh I have not been able to release fully to you. Forgive me for the bitterness, anger, hatred, loathing, and unforgiveness that has kept me in slavery. Lord, there is no "curse" I can portray onto those that have hurt me that is as powerful as the avenging that you will take. Help me to let you deal with those who have hurt me and hurt those that I have loved and focus fully on renewing my own heart so that I might be forgiven - on the inevitable ME day that is fast approaching - as I have forgiven others. In Christ alone I stand. Amen.
