As this new year was quickly approaching I began contemplating and prayerfully considering what fabulous items on my to-do list were also on God's list. With as fabulous as each item is, I was for sure and for certain that each must then be on God's grand list for me for this year, as well. As a daughter of the King, first and foremost I want to do His will and carry out His plan for my life. In the most fabulous of ways, of course. With my 2016 Fabulous Things I Want to Accomplish List in hand, I prayed over each item, asking God to show me what He would have me do with each project, task, or intention I had placed on that fab-list.
And, then, well, then I waited. I waited for Him to reveal Himself in each and every detail of my list and thought now I should just be still and wait upon the Lord. Now, what to do in the meantime? Hm. What if God doesn't reveal himself until much of the year passes? What happens when the time I have dedicated for these projects comes and goes? What should happen if God speaks and I am not listening?
With nothing else to do and new found time on my hands, I perused facebook, spending a little more time reading longer, in-depth articles, that normally I would have barely skimmed. One particular article was from Relevant Magazine and was titled "God has already Revealed His Plan for Your Life."
I argued with the title in my mind and thought Well, maybe He has revealed it to you pal, but, as for me, I am still waiting. Wrestling with the decision to read or not to read, I reluctantly opened up the article and these words jumped out at me: "I prayed, 'God, I really want to do your will. And I will do it, but first I need to know what it is. I mean, how could God expect me to do His will if He wasn’t telling me what it was, right?'"
Hey! This guy gets me. I was hooked. I kept reading.
"God reminded me...that He had already given me many insights into His will...In front of me, my Bible was open to the book of Philippians. I heard God say, “You want to know what I want you to do? Start by being obedient to what I’ve already commanded you. I’ve given you a lot to do. I want you to have my attitude and mindset. I want your life to look like mine.”"
Well, what do you know? God used this article to speak to me, in the same way, He used the book of Philippians to speak to this fellow. I already know much of what God wants me to do. It's in His word. And, what's the first command God gave us to do? Luke tells us in Chapter 10, verse 26, "The man answered, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.'"
If I trust and believe my Father, I will then do what He has commanded me to do. And, the first thing on that fab-list is simply to love Him. If I love Him, I will obey Him. If I am obeying Him, I am in prayer. If I am praying to Him, I am seeking Him. If I am seeking Him, I will be in His word. If I am in His word, He will equip me with the tools, resources, discernment, wisdom, and knowledge necessary to know what His plan for my life is.
Our Father wants us to communicate with Him. Yet, He also expects us to put our big girl panties on and make some decisions. Hike up those britches sisters! You've got some intentions to attend to!
